Veronique
Technological advancements are far and away some of the greatest wonders of the people of Asukan. The development of “Titans”, gigantic mechanical monstrosities manned by a single pilot, marked a turning point in the war against the forces of darkness. No longer limited by the strength of their flesh and bones, mankind was finally able to truly combat the hulking horrors they had simply fled from previously.
One of the brightest minds of her generation, Veronique had always dreamt of joining an order of knights since she was younger. Yet her lack of control over many of the muscles in her body meant that such dreams were to never come true. She required constant support from her family to be able to get around town, with her father often carrying her around as a child. Still, Veronique dreamt of holding a sword and joining the war against the demons that so constantly threatened her people.
As so often happens, it was in a particularly perilous situation that her powers manifested. In her late teens, on a fairly typical walk Veronique’s family were set upon not by demons, but by brigands. Although her father tried his best to fend off the thugs, there were simply too many of them, and he was viciously beaten into submission. Unable to move on her own, Veronique could only watch in anger and in helplessness as the men turned their attention to her mother.
The moment the first man laid his hand upon her mother was the last moment he had a hand, as it was ripped clean off by an invisible force.
As Veronique shouted in anger and fury, the men were flung into trees and the ground like unwanted toys thrown by a sulking child. Tree branches and weapons alike struck the assailants, who attempted to flee from the awakened telekinetic. None of them escaped without injury.
Word spread quickly of the manifestation of a telekinetic, and it wasn’t long before Veronique received an offer from the Academy of Mechanical Militarisation to train with them to become a “Technomancer”. Years later, Veronique, known now as “Humanity’s Protector”, is one of the most renowned commanders in the battle against the darkness. Wielding the titan known only as “The Sentinel”, she alone has saved countless lives throughout the war, and continues to shield the innocent and her fellow soldiers from harm to this very day.
